JardiNet

Imagine the place: an urban wasteland between buildings forgotten by the public administration, used as a canine urinal and a meeting place for night-time dealing. This environment aroused the mobilisation of the neighbours to demand a humane and quality public space. For this reason, the project was born as a social action to regenerate part of an unpainted urban fabric.

JardiNet began by reclaiming the place by signposting the large amount of dog excrement in the area. The aim of this initiative was to demonstrate to the administration the urgency of its refurbishment. The action was successful, and the City Council cooperated in solving the problem by inviting us to participate in the project for the new square.

The proposal is based on a mesh of rectangular flowerbeds on which the urban needs detected, have been projected. Firstly, vegetation to balance the densification of the immediate built environment. Secondly, pedestrian routes and rest areas. And finally, the space for alternative play such as urban parkour, mazes or circuits for scooters and bicycles. The integration of these layers resulted in a three-dimensional mesh capable of responding to all these functions.

To build it, prefabricated pieces of reinforced concrete were chosen, which contained and protected the vegetation while allowing rainwater to infiltrate, thus helping to reduce its water requirements, and promoting as much as possible the capture and absorption of rainwater within the project itself. The jardiNet was the result of the demand for urban space as an alternative meeting point and a new enclave of biodiversity for the environment.
